Kehwa for Flu: A Natural Preventive & Soothing Drink for Kids and Adults

A warm herbal kehwa is a gentle, effective option for both children and adults. This traditional drink has preventive as well as soothing properties, making it especially helpful during seasonal viral infections.

Below is a simple, safe, and time-tested kehwa recipe, along with age-appropriate usage guidelines.


Why Kehwa Helps During Flu Season

This kehwa combines warming spices known for their:

Kehwa Recipe (1 Glass)

Ingredients

  • 1 glass water

  • 1 cinnamon stick (1-inch piece / daarcheeni)

  • 3 cloves (laung)

  • Ajwain – 1 pinch

  • Ginger – 1-inch piece (optional)

  • Honey – 1 teaspoon (see age restrictions below)


How to Prepare Kehwa

  1. Add all ingredients except honey to a pan.

  2. Bring to a boil.

  3. Let it simmer until 1 cup reduces to ¾ cup.

  4. Strain the liquid.

  5. Allow it to cool slightly.

  6. Add 1 teaspoon honey just before serving.

💡 Important: Never add honey to boiling hot liquid.


Storage Instructions

  • Can be stored in a clean bottle for 12–16 hours

  • Reheat before use

  • Add honey after reheating, just before serving

Honey Safety

  • No honey under 12 months

  • ✔ Kehwa without honey can be given from 3 months onward

Recommended Quantity

  • 3 months onward: 2 teaspoons (without honey)

  • 2 years: ½ cup

  • Adults: 1 full cup or mug

Frequency

  • Up to 3 times daily, depending on tolerance
